Editorial Policy

4IR Insights explains how emerging technologies (artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, automation, cybersecurity and more) are changing industries, work and society. This policy sets out the standards we hold ourselves to.

Our principles

• Accuracy first. We verify facts, figures and quotes before publishing, and prefer primary sources such as research papers, official data, company filings and direct interviews.
• Evidence over hype. We distinguish clearly between what a technology does today, what is being piloted, and what is speculation.
• Independence. Our coverage is not for sale. Advertisers, sponsors and partners have no say over what we write or conclude.
• Fairness. Where a story concerns a company, person or organisation, we aim to represent their position accurately and give them a reasonable chance to respond.

Sources and attribution

We link to or cite the sources behind our reporting wherever possible, and our articles end with a list of the sources used for the figures they contain. When we rely on anonymous sources, we do so only when the information is important, cannot be obtained on the record, and we have good reason to trust it.

Analysis and opinion

Articles in our Analysis section contain interpretation and argument. We label analysis and opinion clearly so readers can tell it apart from news reporting.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to support our work — for example, to help with research, summarise long reports, suggest structure, draft and edit text, and produce illustrations and charts. AI tools can make mistakes, so they never have the final say.

A human editor reviews every article before publication. Every fact, figure and quotation is checked against its original source, and the editor is responsible for the accuracy and fairness of everything we publish. We do not publish AI-generated content without this human review.

Images and charts

Unless stated otherwise, the illustrations on this site are original artwork created for 4IR Insights, sometimes with the help of AI and design tools. They are illustrative and do not depict real people, products or events. Charts are built from the published data cited in the article and its source list.

Sponsored content and affiliate links

Any sponsored content, partnership or paid placement will be clearly labelled as such. We do not currently use affiliate links. If we introduce them in future, they will be clearly disclosed, this policy will be updated, and they will never influence what we cover or what we conclude.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with the date of the change. To report an error, please use our contact page and choose “Feedback”.

Conflicts of interest

Contributors must disclose any financial or personal interest related to the topics they cover. Where a relevant interest exists, we either disclose it in the article or assign the story to someone else.
